Queensland Day celebrations will be a triple treat for the Scenic Rim, with Council staging three free events across the region in June to mark the State’s birthday and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Queensland Day Family Fun Day at Beaudesert on Sunday 5 June will be the centrepiece of Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Queensland Day celebrations, honouring the region’s Australia Day Awards winners and nominees and welcoming its new Australian citizens.

The celebrations will continue at Tamborine Mountain on Tuesday 7 June and Boonah on Thursday 9 June with free morning teas and prizes to be won in royalty-themed games.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said Council was pleased to host the events which are part of the 2022 Queensland Government’s Queensland Day celebrations.

“With three events across the Scenic Rim, there’s something for everyone as we celebrate all things Queensland and our special place in the sunshine state,” he said.

“We’re inviting everyone to join the festivities, as on 6 June, Queensland marks 163 years as a separate colony from New South Wales.”

The free family fun day in Beaudesert on Sunday 5 June runs from 10am to 1pm in Jubilee Park and will have all the fun of the fair with games, face painting, live music, animals, jumping castles and stalls.

Highlights will be the presentation of Council’s 2022 Australia Day Awards and a citizenship ceremony to welcome the region’s newest Australians.

“With the lifting of COVID restrictions, our Queensland Day event at Beaudesert will be the long-anticipated celebration of our Australia Day Awards nominees and winners,” Mayor Christensen said.

“Given the recent recognition the region has received on the international stage, all of our Queensland Day events are a great opportunity for our communities to come together to celebrate being part of Queensland, as well as the jewel of the south-east.”

Council will also host free morning teas from 10am to 11am at Tamborine Mountain Library on Tuesday 7 June and the Boonah Forecourt in High Street on Thursday 9 June.

“Come and join the party as we have much to celebrate,” Mayor Christensen said.
